Subway / Justice League Famous Fans #4

Well, the time has finally come. It has been a good run but it is, at long last, the end of the Subway Famous Fans Ad comics. We had football players fight divers, basketballs stop apes, and Grundy falling into frozen water. Its been a good run. So, for the last time, turn off your brain and grab some avocado, it's time for Subway / Justice League Famous Fans #4.

As always, lets start with the cover. Wow. This one, I can safely say, is the best cover of the 4. Each main character is in a good action pose. The DC heroes also have a well thought out background to them that does show that the cover artist knew the characters at least a little bit.

We open with the last of our famous fans. This week those people are Laila Ali, former pro boxer and daughter of the famous Muhammad Ali, and the ever popular spokesman of Subway as a whole, Jared Fogle. I would not be suprised if on Earth-Subway, he is like god or something. The two of them are walking down a random street, talking about how they should get to subway before the line gets too long. Jared, I am pretty sure the line means nothing to you. But on the way to the Subway, they see a flash of green light and notice the retarded construction workers running away. Ok, that was mean of me. I do know some people in real life who have physical or mental problems and they are really nice. However, with the comics art work, look at the third panel and tell me that one guy does not have any problems at all. Of course Jared only thinks that they are rushing to the Subway. Yeah because flashes of bright green light is the lunch signal at active construction sites. Does a red light mean stop eatting? But no, the workers are not running to get lunch. They are running away. From what you may ask?

Why from Green Lantern shooting rivets at a Manhunter android. Ok, I do get using a gun on the robot, I do. But look at that first panel and notice all the rivets just flying all over the place. Lets hand it to Green Lantern everyone. Fighting robots and not caring about others safety. Seriously, Hal, you are suppose to be saving people not making the area even more dangerous. Anyway, the Manhunter robot punches Hal into some hanging steel girders. I could say something like Linkara's "I AM A MAN(hunter)" or go for the Street fighter SHORYUKEN but I am too busy watching the project manager in the next panel wonder why he decided to stand under the steel girders during the fight rather then running away with his workers. Jared, who has teleportation and flight powers, saves the project manager. Like the rest of us, the manager askes how Jared did what he did. Jared says with the power of Subway and an active life style. Jared also talks about how he ran a marathon. What that has to do with ANYTHING GOING ON RIGHT NOW I don't know. Just as the Manhunter is about to kill the squishy humans. . .

. . .They are saved by Laila punching the robot in the face. Points for trying, but I don't think you did much. After saying it hurts to punch a robot (ya think?) Green Lantern gives her a pair of glowing green boxing gloves. Now this last panel is kinda strange. The idea is that both Laila and Green Lantern punch out the Manhunter. But look again and you'll see Green Lanterns green fist goes out longer. That would mean Laila did nothing at all and Green Lantern just put those gloves on her hands to mess with her. I mean, come on. Muhammad Ali was able to take Superman, so at least treat his daughter with some more respect.

The punch knocks the Manhunter back and Jared, who until 3 seconds ago was at the mercy of this android, gets into a cement trunk and dumps the wet concreate on the Manhunter. I so called it. Jared does have superpowers on Earth-Subway. No normal man can move as fast as Jared or just suddenly know how to work a cement mixer perfectly with no training before hand. The Manhunter, noticing that concreate does not harden like it does in cartoons, tries to get away. But out of the blue (background) comes a random batarang that klangs the Manhunter on the head. If the Manhunter had any nerve endings, I am sure he would be hurt. But seeing how he is an android, at most, the batarang would have just annoyed him.

It is only now that the Justice League turns up and I do have to admit the first panel is really well drawn. The dialog is cringe worthy, but the poses and set up of the group shot do give each character the right feeling. Flash runs circles around the Manhunter, Wonder Woman ties it up, and Superman. . . frees it from the wet cement? Ya know, aside from Wonder Woman, you guys did nothing.
Superman shakes the hand of Jared and thanks him for his help. Jared, the egomaniac that he is, pretty much says that it was Superman who helped him, not the other way around. Again, Earth-Subway. Where Jared is a higher being of great power. After the hand shakes, the Justice League leave the scene. Wait, they are leaving each in their own way rather then Green Lantern just picking them up?! Holy crap, the artist knows the right way to let the heroes leave the scene! So the comic ends with Ali and Jared still talking about Subway, and don't worry, they WILL get Avocado. Last problem with the comic is that Jared says he only has five dollars for a footlong yet look at his arms. How big is a "foot" on Earth-Subway? Or does Jared just get sandwiches that big?

Well that was the last of the Famous Fans ads. While no where near as bad as part 2, this one is still not the best. The story is meh and the art is better then normal. Jared has random super powers and Green Lantern kinda mocks Laila it feels like, both acts feeling out of place in it all. Worst of all, if you look back at the story, these famous fans did not have any Subway before the fight. Each of the other weeks, the fans had lunch just before the action takes place. Just think of the power these two will get when they eat avocado.

I got my copy of Famous Fans from the comic book Wonder Woman and the Furies #2, again a title from the event Flashpoint. But since this was to be the last week, I planned to give you a link to all the famous fans comics that subway themselves posted but hold the phone.

But what is this? Motion comics?! I guess there is still one more week of Famous Fans to come. Join me again next time when I look at the 2 motion comics that Subway made.
