Subway / Justice League Famous Fans #2

Hey everyone. It's Tuesday. Grab your Subway sandwich and get ready to turn off your brain, it's time to look at another Subway ad comic, Famous Fans.

Like last time, there is a cover for the Ad. Also like last time, the cover is very very boring. There is more action in it then the issue one cover but it is still nothing special. At least the characters are in poses this time around. That is something.

Our comic opens up with Basketball player Blake Griffin ordering the only thing on the Subway menu. I do have to get this out of the way. The guy behind the counter? Totally a robot. No real person who works the subway floor looks that creepy. Well, the girl's don't at least. Anyway, Blake eats his sandwich, which has avocado, and notices that he's going to be late for his dunk show. You'd think a sports superstar would have better time management, or heck a manager. Carl Edwards, the only other guy in the Subway (because these 2 people needed to rent the whole place to themselves) offers Blake a ride. In his NASCAR. Wow. I am sure glad that you were able to take a car that is NOT street legal out to the local Subway. Plus, I am sure you are not wasting the gas that is most likely not cheap. As the two are driving and talking about Subway, they notice something happening on the street.

Gorilla Grodd, with his army of mind controlled apes, is fighting the Justice League in the middle of the street. Ok, seriously. How in the world did you guys not know about a HUGE SCALE ATTACK happening about 10 blocks away?! Oh crud. I just realized! These guys did not rent out the Subway! Everyone else evacuated the city area and these brain trusts thought that there would be no line at the Subway. Also, I have to say something. Aquaman, love ya in comics, but he can not control water. Yeah, Aquaman does not force water to his will. That is the power of his wife, Mera.

Blake and Carl get out of the race car, leaving it in the middle of a superhero fight. I am beginning to think that Carl's racer has super fight insurance and he is trying to get some good money out of that. They say that they need to help. No. No, you normal humans need to get back into your racer and drive away from the super human fight. The next panel is really confusing. There were people still in the area? The heck?! Just last page and the page before, there were no other humans in the area. I still say that was a Subway bot behind the counter. More so, why do these 3 people need to be told to run away anyway? My guess is that the 3 people (who we never see again) were either trying to join Grodd or just get good seats for a fight. Anyway, Grodd notices our sports heroes and tries to mind control them. But our sports heroes do not fall, because they ate AVOCADO! Holy crap! Avocado can protect us from the green mind control powers of a gorilla?! To all who read this, go out and buy all the Avocado you can! We will be ready when the mind controlling gorilla's take over now!

This page really kicks up the stupid levels. Blake picks up his basketball, which he had with him the whole time and is totally not a plot hole, and takes a shot at Grodd. The ball hits Grodd in the head and somehow that kills off his mind control powers, making the apes just apes. Take note people. Avocado and basketballs are the only real defense from the super apes. Normally, Grodd would remember that even without his mind control powers, he still is a freaking ape and can ripe those humans in two, but remember, Earth-Subway.

Anyway, Green Lantern flies down and thanks the two. We then see the second panel and GOOD LORD! Green Lantern looks down right evil. Grodd is a fluffy bunny compared. Green Lantern just looks like he is going to kill everyone. Anyway, Blake says that he is still going to be late and Green Lantern replies that he can help Blake. So we get to the third panel and my biggest problem. Green Lantern makes a copy of the race car and takes the sports stars to the dunk contest. Alright, why? Why does Green Lantern make a copy of the car? No, it is not the real car because the coloring is all Green Lantern light. If it was the real car, the car would look the same with a green outline. Nothing more. Also, why bother making a green light car at all? If you were just going to take then, why not have them in a bubble or heck, in a green light suit like Green Lantern himself has? Free flying would be a lot cooler and save on ring energy. Lastly, what the heck happened to the race car that made you just leave it behind? Or did it break or something in the conflict? Ugh. This is just too much for my comic book loving head. Let's just say Earth-Subway is really dumb and leave it at that.

The comic ends with Blake at the dunk contest. NOW he has the green outline and is totally cheating. Well it is basketball. The only way to win is the cheat. The sports stars finish their sandwiches and Green Lantern is off to destroy the world. Seriously, look at that last panel and tell me he is not going to do something evil.

This comic was bad. It is worse the issue #1, that's for sure. You can find this ad in a few comics, but I got mine from a copy of Hal Jordan #1 from the Flashpoint mini books. Is this issue the worst of them all? Well it did not make me take out my red ring, but it was still worse then last weeks. But it's not over yet. We still have two more issues of Famous Fans to go. Come back next week when I look at Issue #3.
